This patient had been seeing me as a regular patient for years and had an old bridge that rested on one critical tooth. This style of bridge is no longer in fashion with the prominence and rise of dental implants. In this case the critical tooth that the bridge was resting on failed making the whole thing wobble and drop out. We completed some crown lengthening to allow us to restore the critical tooth- the canine – with a post and crown. Crown lengthening is a surgical procedure to increase the available tooth length - this turns a tooth destined for extraction into one that we can save with a crown. We then placed two Straumann BLX implants. The patient now has an incredibly strong biting area and a restored canine.
